Accelerated Reader
Renaissance Place is a software program for students in Kindergarten to 12th grade. It was created by Renaissance Learning and is used for monitoring the practice of reading and math. Students at Gatesville Elementary take the STAR Reading and Math tests in August, January, and May . The STAR Reading test is used to obtain their Accelerated Reading level. The reading level is then used to create a reading goal (what we call their AR goal) for the students. Students in first through fifth grade use their August reading level for their first and second nine weeks AR goal. They then use their January reading level for their third and fourth nine weeks AR goal. Kindergarten students also participate in the program as their teacher finds them ready throughout the year.

Take an AR quiz
Ready to take a quiz? Go to Renaissance Home and enter your username and password. If you need help with your username or password, please contact Mrs. Turner (252-357-0613 or turnerhw@gatescountyschools.net)
Click on the orange box that says Accelerated Reader.
Search for your book by title or quiz number. Follow the directions on the screen and take the quiz.
**NOTE: Students are NOT allowed to take the STAR Reading Test at home unless under special circumstances in which the student is directed to do so by their teacher or Mrs. Turner. STAR Reading Tests that are completed at home without permission will be deleted.
AR Parent Portal
Parents, stay up to date on your child's quiz scores and progress towards their AR goal though Renaissance Home Connect!
Did you know you could check on your student’s Accelerated Reader progress from home? And did you know we could have email notifications sent to you each time your child takes an AR quiz? YOU CAN!
Go to Renaissance Home Connect and enter your student's username and password. They should know that information but if they don't, feel free to email me at turnerhw@gatescountyschools.net, and I'll be happy to assist you.
Does this book have an AR quiz?
Have books at home that may have an AR quiz? Check at AR Book Find to see if they have a quiz. If they do and the level is in your range, you can take a quiz on them! Books do NOT have to belong to the Gatesville Elementary School library for you to take a quiz on them. As long as they have a quiz through the AR system, you are good to go!
